Obviously you can heal party members as a Ranger. At rank 12 in Wilderness Survival, Healing Spring can heal all allies in the area for 255 over a 10 second period (51 every 2 seconds). This is better than any Monk healing skill. The drawback, of course, is that it's very easily interrupted during its 2-second activation time, and that is has a recharge of 20 seconds, but still it's pretty powerful.

I should have said...obviously I can't heal party members, because I'm not about to waste space in my availble skills set on a healing prayer. A Ranger is not a healer....it wasn't meant to be. that skill was put in the game to appease those players that can't understand what their character is good for and what it isn't. I leave the healing to the monks.

Let us see. We have six classes: E/Me is a clear win/win choice, that would make the super damage maker every group loves, with chaos storm and fire storm and lava front. MO ... probably MO/N makes the best out of the remaining four. That left me R/W.

For E/Me or MO/N, I don't have a problem to find group at all. As to R/W, I usually need to organize my own team. Anyway, much better chance if i could put the team together.

I have played a Warrior/Monk and a Monk/Necro and I can say that I love having rangers in the group with me! While my Warrior waits for the ranger to pull I can cast some quick enchants and then stand there and take my beating while the ranged attackers(ranger) launch a flurry of death from above and while playing my monk I love having someone in the back covering my butt against the monsters that slip past the warriors so I can heal the party. I can say from recent experience doing the frost gate mission it was my monk a ranger and 4 warriors the warriors wouldnt let the ranger pull and aggroed everything in site myself and the ranger ran for safety after the tanks got slaughtered and then proceded to clear the map while the tanks spammed Rez Please.

Exclamation Rangers? Y hate them?

I love rangers, all due to one reason: concussion shot. Nothing is better at shuting down an enemy monk in one fall swoop - and its not even elite! What I really hate is warriors - eles do more dmg and wars just run after ppl the whole match. They say thier good b/c they can take dmg, but wars are the last targeted. I'd much rather have a ranger than a warrior (this is all for PvP of course).

I gotta go back to the poison comments here. My ranger does great with apply poison + poisoners bow. Tac Tac Tac and I'm weakening the masses with single shots to different targets. Then afterwards, focusing on interupts for the called target absolutely shatters enemy defenses.

From a tanking point of view....I don't think rangers should tank....gets us away from what we do best. HOWEVER, you will find that quite often during a battle, that I will strategically position myself directly adjacent to the warriors so that my healing spring can be used to its fullest.

Seriously, my Ranger wails tail as a support class.....not as a damage dealer, not just as an interrupt, but as someone who make an impact on the overall welfare of my team by weakening all foes as my team picks them off one by one.

If I had any critism about my ranger, it would be that I deal considerably less damage and I'm much less effective in dealing with anything without flesh. Poison, bleeds.....that stuff just doesn't cut it with skeletons. And no, Incendary arrows or Kindling doesn't really beat up the dead that much.....not nearly as much as my poison on a nice fleshy creature. Currently, I'm experimenting with Earth Damage on Skeletons and I'm having some decent results. But, alas, none of my specials really apply to much to the bony guys.

Reading some of the comments about rangers setting traps and using pets in PvP makes me think that people are not playing rangers well. For a good ranger, all you need is high expertise and marksmanship. Just throw in Tiger's Fury, Posion Arrows, then attack skills, troll ugnent, and one secondary profession skill. Done. You have a high damage output disrupter.

Obviously your not running with either skilled warriors or skilled monks when your going to UW. There's nothing worse in playing UW then having a ranger or elemenalist, or anything else running up to the blades and "helping" the warriors. The majority of the time the "helping" person draws agro because their too close to the warriors at the beginning pull, or they run up to the monster then, get its attention, and then run back to the casters and make the warriors scramble to regain the monsters attention.

If you take "Range" out of "Ranger" what do you get? Jack, Dittly, and Squat.

Why take a class that is the jack of all trades when you got specialized class that can do it better? Dmg dealing Elementalists got that and can do Massive AOE Dmg. As an interupter Mesmers are better because they dont have to add in arrow flight time as well as some of the Elementalists interupts. I play a R/Me and have fun but I can see they have serious limitations.

Above all else EVERYONE hates ranger because Troll Ungents graphics suck I mean come on FLOWERS??? .

Set Dust and Flame trap, have a warrior stand on it. Pull a mob and everyone run behind the warriors. Traps go off, enemys are blind and lost a third there health. Elements blast them and rule the underworld.

Exactly. That's why one of the specialties of rangers is trappers. I don't have to run up to a mob to blind and cripple it. I simply set traps, pull it over said traps with my longbow, then my group kills it at our leisure.

For and added effect. I bring throw dirt and oath shot. The second I know notice someone get hit, I throw dirt. Oath Shot is a back up if the mob spreads out. If everyone works together, and pull small groups, the monk only works in cases something happens, which is less common.

Back up plan: Cast fertile seasons behind you just out of range. And set spike trap outside its range also. Stand there and tank, (unless someone better can) As soon as you aggro enemys and spike trap goes off, run back to the fertile seasons spirit and healup. Everyone can out run them now cuz they are cripple. Go back and finish the fight.

Trash Troll Unguent, that skill is worthless except in gimpy Arena battles. It takes too long to cast, requires you running well out of range of the battle...

Oh, and most importantly, in a team build (ie. HoH), it wastes a whole slot you be using to further your specialty/aid your team. Trust thy monk, young padawan. Also, and this applies to both Arena and HoH: Rangers are targetted next to last, if not last. If you're the one getting beat on, a) the other team has no sense or b) Battle's over anyway.

And, to jump around a bit, how many Rangers is mass Rangers, Sama? 3+?

I don't think the class Ranger sucks at all. It's the people who play them. You can't tell me you've never come accross a horrible monk in PvP, or any other class for that matter. It just seems there more bad players who use Rangers than any other class.

After my PvP matches my team always thanks me, and compliments me. It may be harder to be a good Ranger, but it is entirely possible. Heck, I even took a W/Mo One on One once. Albiet he kinda sucked, and he kept using heal area on me... but I beat him none the less.

What most rangers don't know is that they do more damage with a mix of beast mastery and marksmanship specialization.

See this build.

I believe that a good ranger also requires a good team. You can say this about any class really. But making any use of traps or spirits almost requires the whole team to know how to use them effectively. If your in a pug or a team that doesnt care to create builds that compliment each other, most of these skills wont make much sence to the team. Rangers suffer most (imo) from teams with little cohesion. They are forced to deal support damage and the occassional interupt. Which any other class can do better.
I think a group of players that plan, really level the classes out. I cant prove it, but I think this is how Anet played and tested the game - with corrdinated teams.
